  • 15 new features that iOS 14 brings to make your iPhone better

    1 / 16

It’s been just under a month since Apple rolled out iOS 14 to the world. The latest software update brings a slew of new features that make the iPhone experience better than before. From messages to privacy, Apple has made significant and arguably cosmetic changes to how people intend to use their iPhone. Here we list out 10 features that make the iPhone better

    2 / 16

Widgets that change the home screen of your iPhone

Apple has finally given in to the widget ‘charm’ and introduced a feature available on Android since forever. Widgets on the iPhone give a different look than ever before. You can add a widget for batteries, photos, weather — depending on what you want.

    3 / 16

Hide your photos on iPhone in a much better way

Hidden Photos feature was always available on the iPhone but iOS 14 makes it better. There’s a setting through which Hidden Albums can be hidden completely till you turn it back on.

    4 / 16

    An all-new app library

Apple has brought an all-new app library with iOS 14, which is a neat way to organise all the apps. Even if you don’t want an app and don’t want to delete it you can simply remove from home screen and store it in the app library.

    5 / 16

    Memojis get better and expressive

Apple has updated Memoji options like new hairstyles, headwear and face coverings. Memojis have also become more expressive with iOS 14.

    6 / 16

Use Gmail, Google as default mail and browser apps

For years, Apple has been ‘accused’ of being restrictive but with iOS 14 Apple has given access to third-party apps more than ever. This means that one can set Gmail — or any other mail service — as the default mail app. Same goes for browser as well.

    7 / 16

    iMessage becomes more like WhatsApp

One of the most significant changes iOS 14 brings is to the iMessage app. From @ mentions to pinning chats — iMessage is more tilted towards WhatsApp’s functionalities and features.

    8 / 16

    Picture-in-Picture feature comes to YouTube

If you are in a particular app and a YouTube video pops up, with iOS 14 the picture-in-picture mode can be activated. It’s not available in the YouTube app as of now but in Safari and WhatsApp, it works quite well.

    9 / 16

Privacy has never been better on an iPhone before iOS 14

The most important — and controversial — feature is that you can share what you want with third-party developers, which makes your data more secure than ever before.

    10 / 16

Translation gets easier and better on the iPhone

Using the all-new Translate app, you can translate voice and text in 11 different languages. Hindi is not an option as of now but other prominent foreign languages are supported.

    11 / 16

Emoji search comes to the iPhone keyboard

The default keyboard on the iPhone now has an easier way to search emojis with iOS 14.

    12 / 16

New ‘status bar’ feature to make you more aware

iOS 14 brings a new feature where you will see an orange light on home screen if an app is using the microphone of the iPhone. Or it will show a green light if any app is using the camera. This creates awareness about what app is using camera or microphone and whether it is necessary for the app to do so.

    13 / 16

Gesture support comes to the back of the iPhone

A simple double-tap or triple tap on the back of the iPhone can trigger shortcuts like Notification Centre. It’s a really handy feature that iOS 14 brings to the iPhone.

    14 / 16

AirPods users get new cool features

Two new AirPods related features have been introduced with iOS 14. First is automatic device switching, which will allow your AirPods or AirPods Pro to switch between iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, and Apple Watch paired to the same iCloud account. Spatial audio feature — only for AirPods Pro — makes the audio experience more immersive on the iPhone.

    15 / 16

Apple Maps gets better on the iPhone

The new features — like electric vehicle routing or cycling directions — on Apple Maps might not be available in India but indicate how Apple is making Maps better on the iPhone

    16 / 16

New design and features for Siri

Apple has changed the interface for Siri and it is more compact now. For instance, if you activate Siri on iOS 14, it won’t hog on the entire display of the iPhone.

  • Launch of GSTR-2B for the month of July 2020

The GST Council, in its 39th meeting held on 14th March 2020, had recommended to adopt and implement the incremental approach of linking the present system of filing of GSTR-3B and GSTR-1 and other significant changes like enhancements in GSTR-2A and its linking to GSTR-3B. One such enhancement that the Council recommended was introduction of an auto-drafted input tax credit (ITC) statement which would aid in assisting / determining the input tax credit that is available for every taxpayer.

GSTR-2B is going to be such an auto-drafted ITC statement which will be generated for every registered person on the basis of the information furnished by his suppliers in their respective GSTR-1, 5 (non-resident taxable person) and 6 (input service distributor). It is a static statement and will be made available for each month, on the 12thday of the succeeding month. It is expected that GSTR-2B will help in reduction in time taken for preparing return, minimising errors, assist reconciliation & simplify compliance relating to filing of returns.

Key features in GSTR-2B which would assist taxpayers in return filing are as under:

    1. It contains information on import of goods from the ICEGATE system including inward supplies of goods received from Special Economic Zones Units / Developers. This is not available with the release of GSTR-2B for the month of July and will be made available shortly.
    2. A summary statement which shows all the ITC available and non-available under each section. The advisory given against each section clarifies the action to be taken by the taxpayers in their respective section of GSTR-3B;

    • All taxpayers are requested to go through their GSTR-2B for July 2020 and after comparing the same with the credit availed by them in July 2020, provide feedback (if any) on any aspect of GSTR-2B by raising a ticket on the self-service portal (https://selfservice.gstsystem.in/).

  • Top 10 Problems In Windows 10 – How To Fix It

If you’ve upgraded to Windows 10, you’ll know that it’s a big improvement on its predecessors and has some great features. However, like every other operating system, it’s not perfect and you will sometimes run into problems. Fortunately, very few PC problems are without a solution. Here are 10 of the most common Windows 10 problems and how to fix them.

    1. Not enough space to install a Windows update

If you want a quick way to free up tens of gigabytes of space, we recommend CleanMyPC. It will uninstall apps and all their files, clean up Windows Registry database, and remove temporary files that are still hanging around. It can remove files automatically, after scanning your PC, or you can choose to review the results of the scan and decide for yourself what to delete. You can download it for free here.

Another way to deal with this problem is auto free up space on your hard drive or SSD. One way to do that is to use the Built in Disk Cleanup tool.

    • Click on the Start menu
    • Choose All Programs
    • Select Accessories, then System Tools
    • Click on Disk Cleanup
    • Under the Files to delete heading, choose which file types you want to remove
    • If you’re not sure about which file types to get rid of, select each one in turn and read its description
    • When you’ve selected the file types to delete, click OK

You can also free up space by manually archiving and removing large and old files and uninstalling applications, however, it will take much of your time.

    2. PC boots slowly

There are a number of reasons Windows 10 might be booting slowly. The first two things to check are that Windows is up to date and hasn’t been infected with malware.

    To check for malware:

    • Press the Windows key and “I”
    • Choose Update & Security
    • Select Windows Defender
    • Click on Open Windows Defender
    • Press Full Scan and the Scan now

Once it’s finished scanning, follow the on-screen instructions.

To check for updates to Windows, go to Updates & Security and the select the option to either check for updates or install available updates.

Another option is to disable startup programs, that slow down your PC’s boot. The simplest way to do that is to use CleanMyPC. It allows you to manage autorun applications in just a few clicks.

    3. Files open in the wrong application

Most of us double-click a file to open it, but if the file association in Windows is broken, as it often is, it won’t open in the app you expect it to. You can fix that by clicking on the Start menu and choosing Settings. Click on the System tab and look for the category labelled “default apps.” In there, you can choose what app opens each type of file and specify an app for different file extensions.

    4. Windows uses 4G data when you don’t want it to

If you’re using a personal hot spot to connect to the internet over 4G, the last thing you want is for background processes and downloads to eat up your bandwidth.

    • Click on the Start menu and choose Settings
    • Click Network & Internet
    • Select Wi-Fi, then Advanced Options
    • Switch “Set as metered connection” to the ON position

    5. You can’t play DVD movies

Windows 10 doesn’t have its own built-in DVD player anymore. Probably because Microsoft assumes everyone watches movies online. You can pay to download a DVD player from Microsoft, but a better idea is to download VLC instead. It’s free and will play your DVDs.

    6. Too many notifications

Action Center in Windows 10 is great for keeping all your notifications in one place. However, it can quickly become cluttered with messages you’re not really interested in from apps you hardly ever use. Fortunately, you can switch those off.

    • Go to the Start menu and choose Settings
    • Click on System, then choose Notifications & Actions
    • Use the toggle switches to control how and when notifications appear, or if they appear at all. As well as controlling system level notifications, you can set them on a per-app basis.

If you do not longer need the program with annoying notifications, you can uninstall it and forget the pain. CleanMyPC’s Multi Uninstaller is the right tool to get rid of such apps completely and for good.

    7. Your privacy settings aren’t right for you

The default privacy settings in Windows 10 might be fine for many people, but for lots of others, they’re likely to allow too much access to personal data. Here’s how to change them.

    • Go to Settings from the Start menu
    • Choose Privacy
    • Go through each section on the left hand side in turn (General, location, camera, microphone, etc)
    • Review the settings in each section and use the toggle switches to adjust them to suit your preference

    8. System Restore has gone missing

System restore hasn’t disappeared in Windows 20, but it is turned off by default, for reasons best known to Microsoft. To turn it on, do the following:

    • Click on the Start menu and type ‘system restore’ into the search box
    • Select Create a restore point
    • When you see the System Properties panel, click on the System Protection tab
    • Make sure your C: drive is selected and press Configure
    • Click the radio button next to Turn on system protection
    • Use the slider to specify how much of your hard drive to use for restore points — 5-10% should do it

    9. Too many pop ups in Edge

Pop up adverts can be very frustrating. Fortunately, Edge has a built-in pop-up blocker, though it’s off by default. To turn it on, launch Edge, click on the More button (three dots) and choose Settings, then View advanced settings. Set Block pop-ups to “On”.

    10. Printer trouble

Printers are a common source of trouble, but it can often be easily fixed.

    • Go to Control Panel, then choose Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click on your printer and choose to remove it.

Now, go to your printer maker’s website and download the latest drivers for your printer and follow the instructions to install them.

Windows 10 problems don’t have to cause you nightmares. If you follow the tips here, you can resolve the most common ones quickly and easily. And, don’t forget to download CleanMyPC and let it help you clear space, speed up your PC and fix other annoying Windows 10 issues.
